Twenty-five years ago on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, His Eminence Christoph Cardinal Schönborn, O.P. took up his office as the Archbishop of Vienna. The International Theological Institute also celebrates an anniversary this fall, as it enters its twenty-fifth year of existence on the feast of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face. Cardinal Schönborn has served as the ITI Grand Chancellor for all of these years.
Since the birth of our Institute in Austria on 1 October 1996, Cardinal Schönborn has accompanied our growth with his great care and support. He has been the mediator between the ITI and the Holy See. He has been a faithful promoter and an active fundraiser. He has been our good teacher and spiritual and intellectual father. He has been our frequent guest and always our host. We owe much to him and to his leadership!
