“The Concept of Sacredness in the Pastoral Communication of the Church’s Teaching on Sexuality”

A lecture by Mgr. Dr. Everard de Jong Bishop de Jong was ordained priest in 1983. In 1984 bishop Joannes Gijsen sent him to Rome to study philosophy at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas, where he received his licentiate in 1986. He then went to The Catholic University of America in Washington DC, where he studied with prof. William Wallace, and in 1989 was awarded his Ph.D. with the thesis Galileo Galilei's Logical treatises and Giacomo Zabarella's Opera logica. A Comparison. After his return to the Netherlands, de Jong taught philosophy at the seminary Rolduc and became responsible for youth, vocations and evangelization within the diocese. On December 11, 1998 he was appointed vicar-general of the diocese of Roermond. The next day Pope John Paul II appointed him as auxiliary bishop of Roermond and titular bishop of Cariana. He was ordained bishop in February 1999.
