On Friday, August 19th, during a special meeting with faculty and staff, Prof. Dr. Christiaan Alting von Geusau officially announced that in accordance with article 6 par. 1 of the Statutes of ITI Catholic University he will retire from his duties as Rector at the end of the 2022-2023 academic year. In accordance with Canon Law, the statutes stipulate that a rector can serve a maximum of three terms of 3 years. By June 2023, Dr. Geusau will have served as Rector for over 9 years and before that as Chief Development Officer for 10 years.
On behalf of ITI Grand Chancellor and Archbishop of Vienna, His Eminence Cardinal Dr. Christoph Schönborn, the Rector announced that a Search Committee is being constituted consisting of senior faculty members Prof. Dr. Bernhard Dolna and Prof. Dr. Michaela Hastetter, two members of the Board of Trustees still to be named, and the Grand Chancellor himself. It will be the task of the Search Committee to draw up a profile for the next Rector and then to identify a candidate to be formally proposed for canonical appointment by the Vatican Congregation of Catholic Education, under whose jurisdiction ITI Catholic University falls.
The new Rector would assume office with the start of the 2023-2024 academic year. Dr. Alting von Geusau commented: “It has been such a great privilege to lead this beautiful institution and to see it flourish through years of dedicated work by faculty and staff, as well as the enormous generosity of friends and benefactors around the world. Our students and graduates are a source of great pride to me, seeing what impact they are having in their countries and communities. It will now be my focus to secure a smooth transition to my successor in a spirit of joy and deep gratitude.”
