Free to Believe? Equality, Freedom and Religion
03. Mar. 2017 - 03. Mar. 2017
ÖAAB Wien Meeting Room, Laudongasse 16, 1080 Vienna
This evening seminar with Dr. Roger Trigg will explore the inter-related themes of freedom of conscience and speech, on the one hand, and equality and non-discrimination laws on the other. The discussion will be guided by two overriding questions:
Is religious freedom being curtailed in our pursuit of equality and non-discrimination?
Are enough efforts being made to accommodate and safeguard those who are motivated by a religious conscience?
Dr. Roger Trigg is a senior research fellow at the Ian Ramsey Centre, University of Oxford and Associate Scholar at the Religious Freedom Project of the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace & World Affairs. He is also an emeritus professor of philosophy at the University of Warwick. His books include Equality, Freedom and Religion (Oxford University Press, 2012) and Religious Diversity (Cambridge University Press, 2014). He is an expert on issues concerning the place of religion in public life and international religious freedom.
