Recently, the Rector of the ITI Catholic University and the Founder and President of the International Catholic Legislators Network (ICLN), Prof. Dr. Christiaan Alting von Geusau, was featured as a guest speaker at the Budapest Lectures series at the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC). The Collegium has been acknowledged by the Hungarian Parliament as an important institution for fostering young talent in the Carpathian Basin, where it provides knowledge and special training to students and young adults according to their individual interests and talents. In conversation with Dr. Marton Sulyok, Head of the MCC Center for Public Law, Dr. Geusau shed light on a number of questions relating to the relationship between politics and legislation.
What principles should be considered foundational in law-making? What is a common good and why should it be considered? Why is the idea of justice the basic principle in law-making? What is the most important principle in law-making, from which all other laws derive? Why is it important to understand the theory of natural law and to know what human dignity means?
